In good faith , honestly, without fraud , collusion or participation in wrongdoing. Real, actual , genuine and not feigned. The phrase is often used in the context of denoting a person who acquires property honestly, giving good consideration for the same and without any notice of the claim of a third party to the property. A bona fide holder for value is one who takes a negotiable instrument in good faith for valuable consideration without any notice of the defect in the title of the person from whom he acquired it.

Being or acting in good faith. The term is used even today in both this Latin form and in translation, so for particular terms one should consult entries beginning both with "bona fide" and with "good faith." "Bona fide" is also regularly used almost as a synonym for genuine or unfeigned as in "That"s a bona fide good deal I"m offering you" and "This is bona fide mink."
