The definition of Brand Name in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
The name tying a product to a particular producer under which its product is sold to the public. It may be the producer"s or seller"s corporate name, e.g., Kodak, but it need not be; Sealtest Milk is produced by the Kraft Corporation. A brand name may or may not also be a trademark, e.g., "Coca-Cola" is a brand name, but only "Coke" is a valid trademark.
