Meaning of General Damages
These damages are such as the law will presume to be the direct natural or probable consequence of the act complained of. See Myers v Stephens, 43 Cal. Rptr. 420, 233 C.A.2d 184. special damages , on the other hand, are such as the law will not infer from the nature of the act. They do not follow in the ordinary course; they are exceptional in their character. general damages need not be pleaded while it is necessary to plead special damages. See Pantene v Demos, 375 N.E.2d 480, 59 III. App.3d 328.
