Meaning of Gloves
By tradition, gloves had many symbolic uses in law. In England, formerly, whenever there were no prisoners for trial at Maiden assizes, it was customary for the sheriff to present a pair of white gloves to the judge of the assize. Also, when sovereign pardoned a man convicted of murder or manslaughter , he presented gloves to the judge and court officers as fees of court. Also, it is an immemorial custom to remove the right glove on taking oath.
