Meaning of Impotence
In medical jurisprudence , the inability to copulate, and is properly used of the male; but has been used synonymously with sterility. In the law of divorce , the term means the inability to engage in, or lack of capacity for, normal and complete sexual intercourse. Dolan v Dolan (Me.) 259 A.2d 32, 52 A.L.R.3d 577; and not merely incapacity for procreation. Payne v Pavne, 49 N. W. 230; Griffith v Griffith, 44 N. E. 820, 162 III. 368.
Impotence Alternative Definition
In medical jurisprudence. The incapacity for copulation or propagating the species. It has also been used as synonymous with "sterility." The principal use of the term is as a ground of divorce, and as so used it signifies "the irremediable physical incapacity of one of the parties to a marriage for any reasonable sexual connection with the other." 1 Bish. Mar. & Div. § 766. To avoid impotence, there must be capacity for "copula vera," copulation in its natIMPOTENS ural and ordinary meaning, and not merely of incipient and imperfect coition. 33 Md. 405.
