Meanings, Synonyms, Etymology, Translations and More
Meaning of Review
A statutory proceeding by way of writ or action of review, in the nature of a new trial of the issues previously tried between parties. It is a remedy which is not available when there is a regular and adequate remedy to correct errors in the original action or proceeding. Review is available on two grounds; first, to correct errors of law apparent on the face of the record without further examination of matters of fact; second, new facts discovered since the decree , which should materially affect the decree and probably induce a different result. Scotten v Littlefield, 235 U.S. 407, 35 S.Ct. 125,59 L.Ed. 289. A re-examination of a cause by a court of appeal.
Review Alternative Definition
A second examination of a matter; ordinarily applied to a re-examination of a judicial or official determination. It is a general term, embracing re-examination obtained by every variety of procedure, as by motion for new trial, appeal, writ of error, bill of review, etc.
